Group PMX’s partners supported CUIMC’s Capital Project Management Department by providing Project Management services from the planning phase through construction for the new Irving Cancer Research Building. This 304,100 square foot building has 13 floors above grade (a lobby, seven laboratory research floors, two animal care floors, and three mechanical floors) plus three floors below grade for parking.
The first floor houses a breast screening facility that allows for the examination, diagnosis, and education of 17,000 low-income patients per year. The animal care floors (Vivarium) include BSL2 and BSL3 areas as well as quarantine, behavioral suites, and animal holding areas equipped with automatic watering systems and a state-of-the-art environmental control system that allows the research and facilities personnel to monitor and control every aspect of each room’s environment including light patterns, humidity, and temperature.
A notable success of this project is the fact that this building serves as the model research building on the CUIMC campus.
