Medical & Graduate Education Building

This 107,000 SF Medical & Graduate Education Building is planned to have (15) fifteen floors above grade plus one floor below grade. As the new building will be the core of the Medical & Graduate education programs and a learning/social/gathering space for student life, the building will include: 300 person auditorium, state-of-the-art assembly and classroom spaces, administrative functions, anatomy laboratory and a medical simulation/clinical skills center.

Group PMX, on behalf of Columbia University, conducted an international design competition. Final selection – Designer: Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DSR) and Executive Architect: Gensler.

As part of the design strategy for the project, Group PMX elected to use a design-assist process and selected a façade manufacturer/installer that provided the technical expertise to the design team and allowed the team to maximize the design within the budgetary parameters. In addition to this strategy, the team conducted third party BIM clash detection and plan reviews to ensure that all the complex elements of the building were fully coordinated before the documents were issued for bid.
