Michael Giaramita served as Project Executive and Nick Haralambidis served as the Construction Manager for the campus-wide utility upgrade project during the pre-construction phase.
Developed by NYPA, the scope included the removal of existing boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and distribution pumps in the Selective Energy Plant and two stand-alone buildings. The Selective Energy Plant was converted to a Central Plant, and the campus’s twenty-two existing buildings and one new building now receive hot and chilled water distributed throughout the campus using a new utility distribution system with approximately 6,000 linear feet of Perma-pipe (4 pipe), heat exchangers and steam generators. New power distribution, BAS data loop, and campus-wide internet were also provided.
The two stand-alone buildings received new equipment, so they could be tied into the Central Plant. Several of the old boilers required asbestos abatement of insulation and built-up brick. Replacement equipment included new energy efficient chillers, cooling towers, steam generators, boilers, and an emergency generator.
