This automated, driverless monorail system was executed as a DBOM (design, build, operate, and maintain) project. The new monorail system’s construction comprises a dual guideway, electrification, automated train control system/software, new vehicles, rotating table track switches, five stations, and a maintenance facility.
At the request of the PANYNJ, Mr. Giaramita joined this design-build project when it was approximately 70 percent complete in order to steer it back on track, as it was more than one year behind schedule and $150 million over budget. This was accomplished by Mr. Giaramita assuming the role of Assistant Site Manager for the DBOM Team and managing various problem areas by directing engineering, procurement, management, and field construction forces to meet project goals.
Additional responsibilities included managing the automated train control hardware/software subcontractor and directing the scheduling effort to complete this project on the planned completion date.
