Penn Station LIRR Concourse Wins ENR NY 2023 Best Project

Group PMX is an integral component of the MTA Construction & Development (MTA C&D) Program Management Team, playing a pivotal role in orchestrating a series of remarkable enhancements to New York City’s Penn Station. This iconic transit hub, the busiest in North America, is owned by Amtrak and utilized by both the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and New Jersey Transit, featuring connections to six New York City Transit subway lines. Notably, pedestrian flow within the LIRR concourses faces congestion challenges, particularly during peak hours, with the current concourse infrastructure falling short of meeting the current and future commuter demands.

Through collaborative efforts between MTA C&D and LIRR, the MTA is partnering with property owner Vornado on a substantial $729 million design-build initiative, structured into two distinct project phases, aimed at a comprehensive revitalization of the entire concourse.

We take great pride in our collaboration with WSP as integral members of the broader project team, alongside Skanska and AECOM.

This collective effort has garnered well-deserved recognition, as the project was honored with the prestigious ENR NY 2023 Best Project award in the Airport/Transit category. To learn more about this award winning project, click here.
