World-class Transportation Hub
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) has an extensive modernization and redevelopment program underway at LaGuardia Airport to transform the nation’s premier domestic airport into a world-class transportation hub. The $8 billion LaGuardia Airport Redevelopment Program includes the demolition of the existing central terminal and construction of two new terminal buildings, Terminal B and Delta Air Lines Terminal C; airside and landside improvements; a new aeronautical ramp; frontage roads; a new central heating and refrigeration plant; new parking garages; and utility infrastructure.
Terminal B Makes History
LaGuardia Gateway Partners initiated construction on the new 35-gate, 1.3 million-SF Terminal B in June 2016, successfully finishing the historic project on schedule and within budget in 2022. Valued at an impressive $5.1 billion, this project stands out as one of the largest of its kind in American history and the largest in U.S. aviation history.
The logistically complex project involved construction adjacent to, behind, and above the original footprint, which remained operational for most of the construction period. The construction components included building an Arrivals & Departures Hall, a parking garage, and associated roadway and infrastructure.
Terminal B has redefined the customer experience by expanding its offerings to include nearly 50 top-tier retail, food, beverage, and amenities options—more than doubling its previous selection.
Supporting Development of a Whole New LaGuardia
The PANYNJ awarded program management services to Jacobs to oversee the LaGuardia Redevelopment Program. Group PMX served as a subconsultant, supporting the Jacobs team with expert program controls services, including master scheduling and document controls.
Group PMX also supported the Skanska Walsh design-build joint venture and designers HOK and WSP on the Terminal B project by providing MEP construction administration services.
